change of plan (for my party)

Instead of  May 8th for my party, because ASD is having their Spring Social (which I totally want to go to!) that night, it’s going to be on May 9th (my actual birthday) at my place and it starts at 6pm. It’s also going to be a sleepover party so it’s going to be even more fun. It’s going to be one of the hottest party in Qatar. Well, I hope so! And I got a lot of calling and organizing to do. Thank God Amy (Michael’s mom) sent the contact list to my mom, who sent it to me, so I can call everyone today. I’ve got like 11 people to call about the party! But I won’t call them until tonight so I have plenty of time.

I really hope everyone is able to come to my party but I think they will. Anyways, I’ve got some studying to do!

Humanities class

I’m in humanities class and I am utterly bored. I mean, I could being working on my project on Qatar for Culture but I can always do that later. I mean, I have plenty of time to do it. Why rush? I’ll probably work on it during break and lunch anyways. And there is no homework again today so I’m in a  good mood. But I should study for my English test Thursday…….

I have a test on William Shakespeare. On the types of humor found in his plays, why we read Shakespeare and questions about Twelfth Night. I’m kind of freaking out about it (I freakout all the time. I know!) but I will study today. I need to reread the play again and review the Contemplation Questions again……………

work, work and more work!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven’t written in a while. They have just been piling loads of work on us at school. We have tests, like, all the time and it’s not fun. Hello, I mean I do understand that tests are important but I mean our life does not revolve around studying. I mean hello, we do have social lives!!

But anyways, I’m really excited because my birthday is coming up in two weeks. And it’s on Friday so I get to see C! I’m in Science class with Mr. Rhodes in the library and since I finished writing my summary on an environmental problem today, I have free time to write in my blog.  I’m so excited because on May 8th (the day before my birthday) I’m going to have a party at my place and hopefully it’s going to be the coolest party ever! I invited all the Girl Scouts and Nasriana. So far, Louise is going to come for sure but Lola is going to call me back today and tell me if she is able to come or not. I really hope she can!!!! But she’ll come, hopefully.

church

This morning C was there with his family, his mom Marita and his dad Bill (He also has a brother, Rommel, but he is back in Philadelphia, studying at Temple) C looked extremely handsome (like he always does!) this morning. There isn’t a time where he doesn’t not look good.  Besides him and his family, Catherine, her mom and her cute little sister were at church this morning. Rayan (a younger boy that I know) and Rachel (his sister) and their mom were at church. Nasriana wasn’t here this morning because her dad has to work. I miss her! The Sirum family (which includes Astrid and Sven) weren’t here this morning either.  The service was good. According to Catherine, at Friday School, while they were doing the activity, everyone was quiet. Nobody said anything. Very strange. After the service, I talked to a bunch of people, including Bill. We talked about school and the exams and ASD and getting in and things like that. I really hope I do get in…………..

Anyways, I heard the most amazing song last night (I’m listening to it now, actually) it’s called ‘Aisha’ by Cheb Khaled. The song is in French and Arabic but just because it’s in different languages doesn’t mean I don’t understand it! The first time I heard it, I knew it about a woman called Aisha and the man who is in love with her is singing about her. And I checked this morning before church and I was right. See, love needs no translation. 

On the other hand, Michael isn’t feeling well (She wasn’t feeling yesterday either) and she and I were supposed to have a sleepover today. Poor thing, I hope she feels better soon. I was really looking forward to seeing her today but we’ll see each other. Hopefully.

Anyways, I have a bunch of tests next week that I need to study for. I’d better start hitting the books!

one more day til the weekend!

Yes!!!! I’m so happy. Only one more day til the weekend. I can’t wait! It’s been one heck of a week and I have one heck of a week next week. Why? Because I have loads of tests!!! I have a science test, a spanish test and a English test and I’m sure there are more to come. Not to mention the fact, I have a music test tomorrow. What is up with all the tests the teachers are giving us? I mean, hello, we do have social lives! Not everything revolves around our school.  But speaking of schools I have a thing for fictional schools and I don’t know why. I mean, Gossip Girl’s Constance Billard School for Girls makes me want to go there! In the book series, it’s described as an private and elite all-girls school in New York City (the entire series takes place in New York. Except when the characters go on vacation!) and it the type of school where there is always gossip going on and it’s where the beautiful, rich people learn and then when they graduate, they get into all the Ivy-League schools. The school is completely based on the Nightingale-Bamford School, where the author Cecily von Zeigesar attended.  Another one of my favorite fictional schools is Chilton, from Gilmore Girls. I love the uniforms!!!! They are so stylish. Why can’t my school uniform be like that? But next year at ASD, I won’t have to wear a uniform.

Anyways, Rawan, Layanne, Ariana and me planned our bake sale today at lunch but Rawan, Layanne and me planned some of it during break and then I invited Ariana, who is a good friend of mine. She is a grade above me but she is really nice, fun and she and I have so much in common. So in the meeting, we discussed who was gonna bring what and the profits and stuff. Since we are doing this for Community and Service (it’s a part of the International Baccalaureate program) credit, we are donating part of the proceeds to a charity. We still need to get approval from Mrs. Blackburn, but I think we should be OK. Rawan, Layanne and I are gonna talk to her during lunch tomorrow.

There is this song that is stuck in my head called Silence by Aly and AJ. It is amazing and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. The songs sounds more like a lullaby but it’s one of the reasons why I like it. Here are the lyrics to the song.

Isn’t it beautiful? The album the song is from is called Insomniatic. The song, I think, is about how two people (a boy and a girl) had (or could be having) problems in their relationship so they keep silent. The girl and boy were together but now they are apart but the girl is still in love with the guy, and she still needs him (’I need you, more than you’ll ever know. I still do. Willing to let it show.’) She asks the guy to forget they ever said anything. It’s a sort of sad love song but it’s really good but you’ll have to hear the song for yourself.

Anyways, school was good. First period English with Mr. Bowe, we translated modern day sentences into Shakespearan language. I did my sentence and I wrote it with C on my mind. Well, actually he is always on my mind.The teacher really liked mine. We also read a scene from Twelfth Night and I was a Fabian.

Second period Arabic with Mr. Othman, we had a writing test. Isn’t that exciting? Third period Music with Mrs. Akerstrom, we had our last practice for our piece which we will perform soon. I’m playing the xylophone and my peice is called ‘Rocky Top.’ Fourth period Humanities with Mr. Bonnalie, we answered questions on the countries we, as a class, did. Fifth period Spanish with Ms. Margetts, we work on verb tenses, did some listening activities and worked on our skit for bargaining at the market (because we are doing the shopping unit in Spanish right now) and sixth and final period with Mrs. Lindsay, I worked on ‘All about me’ video.

Humanities class

I’m in Mr. Bonnalie’s fourth period humanities class and since I finished my paragraph on the situation today in the Maldives, I have free time. See, in our group we all wrote one paragraph on a country (either Bhutan, Pakistan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Nepal) and we wrote a paragraph either about the history, situation today, climate and location and resources. Here is my paragraph:

On December 26, 2004 a tsunami hit the Maldives area and caused a huge amount of damage to Male and the other towns nearby.  Besides the tsunami, there are also political problems in the Maldives. One controversial problem of the Maldives is the government. The government has not been changed for centuries and the power belongs to one person though in the past, the government was a monarchy. The government now is a republic. In some of the islands, the same families have been ruling for years and the rules are very strict. The local chiefs on the islands, according to Wikipedia, are ‘trained to report to the government about the situation in their islands and to merely wait for instructions from the central power and to follow them thoroughly.’ Maldives tourism plays a huge part for Maldives’ economy, seeing how it helps support employment and income to other industries, and tourism alone makes up 20% of the country’s GDP.

Last day of the weekend

I’m bored. I’m really bored. All I did today was read, use the computer and listen to music. And I’ve got school tomorrow. I’m totally freaking out about my math test I have on Tuesday this week. I mean, I studied and stuff. It’s just in a test situation, I kind of freak out and I forget everything. Well, sort of. You know what I mean!

I really want to hang out with some of my friends. Especially Abi. She has been so busy lately. I haven’t seen her since her birthday party (which was in March, people. MARCH!) but Michael is coming over for a sleepover on Friday so I’m really happy.  Who wouldn’t be happy about that? 

I just want to get this week over with and it hasn’t even started yet. I mean, I’ve got PE first thing in the morning on the first day of week. Talk about a great start! And the girls (our PE group is split up. We don’t have co-ed PE.) are doing gymnastics and I suck at gymnastics.

But anyways, my mom and I are going to watch Gilmore Girls soon. I’d better go! Ciao!

Church

Ok. I know what you are thinking. Yes, I do go to church on Fridays (our school week here is Sunday-Thursday) in the morning and I always have a good time. The services are also on Sunday as well as Fridays. Our services are held at Doha English Speaking School, but we are building a new church which will hopefully be completed by August 2009.  The church’s website is www.epiphany-qatar.org if you want to take a look.

Sightings today at Church

C (he shall remain anonymous) looked extremely gorgeous today. Actually, he always looks extremely gorgeous (that’s one of the reasons why I love him so much!) everytime I see him. C’s friend Jacob and his little brother Nathan were spotted at church. Nasriana (another friend of mine) was at church this morning with her sisters Yohana and Sarah and their mom. Astrid wasn’t at church today because she was scuba-diving but her family was at church this morning including her younger sisters Ingrid and Kjersti and her brothers Sven and Leif were there and their mom was there too.

After the service, I talked to Catherine. She is younger than me and she’ll be in 6th grade next year. She is like, ‘Why didn’t come to the Sunday church?’ (There is a Sunday school for the children while the sermon is going on for the adults.) and I’m like, ‘Because I don’t want to annoy C.’ Because everything I do seems to annoy him. I didn’t even talk to him today! And Catherine replied back saying who cares and I’m like, I do! I do not want to annoy him so I didn’t come to the Sunday school (even if the Sunday school teacher said the class missed me after the service) Plus, he always seems a lot happier when I’m not at the Sunday school. Also after the service, Matthew (a younger kid who is like 7, I think. Just a guess!) wouldn’t stop annoying Sven so I got him off his back by letting him annoy me instead.  When his mom told him it was time to leave (and he didn’t want to leave) I had to literally drag him across the floor in order for him to move! And then when he got up, he felt like he wanted me to leave with him. I was holding onto the door with my dear life because I didn’t want to go (obviously)! I was like, ‘As much as I like you……’ but finally he decided to let go. Sven and I were laughing our heads off!

There is also Dunestock today (Sven told me) which I really want to go to since I’ve never been. It’s hosted by the Doha Players, which is the only amateur dramatics group here in Doha. I’ve worked with them on a production called Almost Dick Whittington (which is how I met Astrid!!!) Dunestock is out in the desert and features live bands, demonstrations and loads of cool stuff!!!!

Girl Scout meeting

Well, the only person that showed up for the meeting (besides me and Michael) was our friend Lola, who is a 7th grader at ASD.  She is very sweet, and she, like the rest of us, likes animals. I known her for about her about a year now, and she and I are good friends. Everybody at the Girl Scouts are good friends with each other! 

I can’t believe it was only us! Abi couldn’t come because her grandmother is here. Alex was hanging out with her brother’s friends (who are hot, according to Michael. I don’t blame Alex. I mean, who wouldn’t want to hang out with hot guys?) Hessa couldn’t come because of some family thing. I’m not sure why Kaija, Brittany or Louise couldn’t come. At the meeting, all we did was talk, put on makeup and then model and take pictures with my digital camera because today was the day of the photo shoot, eat pizza and hang out. Girl Scout meetings are always tons of fun, and I totally enjoy it. 

Also today, I gave Michael her other birthday present (it arrived late. We ordered it.) The present is a pale blue t-shirt that says ‘……..because I’m hot that way!’  which is what she is always saying. I’m so glad that she liked it, and that it fit. My other birthday present that I gave her was the Ninth Princess Diaries book. She and I both love the Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. They are so funny! I can’t wait til the tenth book comes out! Well, I’d better go!
